OOAK Coastal Native American Chumash California Red Abalone Statement Necklace Words cannot properly describe this piece but I'm going to try. I'm not 100% certain it's Chumash but research and exposure to Native American arts and culture give me a deep intuition or feeling it is Chumash. It's definitely United States coastal due to materials and composition. It is an outstanding condition, truly a magnificent one of a kind piece. Gorgeous chunks of California Red Abalone make this piece reversible. One side is earthy colors of rust red, terracotta, and cream. The otherside is streaks of glorious rainbows. There are three rectangular chunks of abalone per side. These are graduated in size. The main abalone piece is approximately 3.5 long and about 2.75" tall. The drop is about 19".  It weights about 165 grams give or take. The long tubular beads are Dentalium Shells. I believe the little brown oblong or football shaped beads are kelp pods of sorts. They seem like wood to me but not at the same time. They are smooth but kind of lumpy. Definitely some sort of pod or seed. There are tiny red and clear glass beads servingas spacers/accents. This is all held together with fishing line. It is all strong and secure if rudimentary in construction. All jewelry is stored and shipped in individual bags for preservation and protection.
