This currency was issued by the Japanese Military Authority during World War II, after Japan occupied the Philippines. The notes were intended to replace the local currency and assert control over the occupied territories. The Japanese government outlawed the possession of guerrilla currency and declared a monopoly on the issuance of money. Many of these notes were destroyed after the war.
