Rare and highly collectible Nettie Rosenstein signed sterling silver with gold vermeil fur/coat/hat clip. This exquisite piece combines elements of a traditional brooch with stabilizing teeth, designed to anchor securely to heavier fabrics such as coats and furs. ~ Nettie Rosenstein (signed) RARE ~ Sterling silver with vermeil (gold wash), enamel accents, blueish green center cabochon with crystal accents. ~ 2 1/4 diameter, 5/8" tall ~ Stamped Sterling and Nettie Rosenstein on back ~ Circa 1940s ~ Highly desirable among collectors CONDITION ~ Very good overall vintage condition ~ Minor wear to the gold vermeil coating on back ~ Minimal enamel wear on front ~ Glass cabochon and center crystal in beautiful condition ~ There is one tiny stone missing. Very hard to see. Based on the rarity of this piece, age, and collector interest I strongly suggest not replacing since all the stones and silver have aged consistently together. Fur clips were extremely popular beginning in the 1920's when costume jewelry began to become extremely popular with women. This occurred at the same time as the advent of the department store. Dress and fur clips were fastened to dresses, furs and other items of clothing. Nettie Rosenstein, a very prominent American fashion designer of the times, created costume jewelry including fur clips.
