This is a stunning Native American hand-crafted pottery piece with a unique zig-zag Prayer Bowl rim opening and a beautiful wood-fired finish. The pot features earthy tones with natural fire-clouding effects, showcasing a traditional firing technique. The interior has a smooth, darkened glaze, adding to its rustic appeal.
Possibly made by Sue Williams, who is the a daughter of Rose Williams and a sister of Susie Crank and Alice Cling. This jar is coil-built, sanded and stone polished. The jar has a carved rim with a geometric shape. The jar was traditionally fired to create blushes on the surface. After the firing, the entire surface was covered in pinon pitch. This was a traditional method historically to make the pottery waterproof. Today, potters continue this process as a testament to the past. It is signed on the bottom in the clay, “SAW”.
🔹 Artist Signature: Marked "SAW" on the base
🔹 Size: Approx. 5 x 2.5 inches
🔹 Material: Traditional clay pottery
🔹 Condition: Excellent vintage condition, no visible cracks or chips, some natural wear consistent with handmade pottery
🔹 Origin: Likely Southwest Native American (Navajo or Pueblo)
This unique pot is a wonderful collector’s item or a perfect addition to any Navajo, Southwestern, rustic, or Native American art collection.
