A teardrop-shaped green gaspeite cabochon set in a sterling silver bezel with a traditional beaded border. Gaspeite is a rare nickel carbonate mineral first discovered in the Gaspé Peninsula of Quebec, Canada, in 1966. Due to its bright apple-green color, it became a popular gemstone for Southwestern and Native American silversmiths, often used as a substitute for or alongside green turquoise. The supply of high-quality gaspeite has dwindled significantly since the closure of major mines in Australia, making vintage pieces highly collectible. Size 8; 3 grams. Excellent condition with minor surface scratches on the silver band and a well-preserved polish on the stone.
