Native American Heishi Fetish Stones Necklace. Three strand Native American made heishi and fetish necklace, probably made in the 1970's or early 1980's. It belongs to my 96 year old friend that has lived in New Mexico since 1950 and she acquired it in NM. Sterling silver cone clasp secures three strands of heishi, or brown tortoise shell beads, and brightly colored stones, one shell (pics 15-16) and one bear fetish (pic 9.) The heishi are smooth and lay tightly together, a sign of quality workmanship. An unusual bauble of an onyx carved bear fetish is mounted inside a carved "cave."
