These kitchen tools are as beautiful as they are ethical. They're hand carved from sustainably harvested tropical hardwood by artisans in Nicaragua.
The artisans work for a U.S.-based Fair Trade organization called Women of the Cloud Forest that has been working in fair trade since 2001. Women of the Cloud Forest forms direct, long-term relationships with small family workshops and cooperatives in Nicaragua, Nepal, Ecuador, and Peru. Besides placing orders with those workshops, it also provides training in business and product development/design and offers no-interest micro-loans and direct grants.
This listing is for a set of 3 kitchen items from Nicaragua. They include a set of salad servers (1 serving fork and 1 serving spoon) and a cooking spatula.
All 3 items are finished with food-safe linseed oil. They are solid wood and very smooth/have a polished feel.
They are all quite long. The salad servers are approximately 13 inches long x 2.5 inches wide. (The spoon is a little shorter than the fork.) The spatula is approximately 14.5 inches long x 3 inches wide.
The spatula has a hole in the handle for hanging and the words "Made in Nicaragua" stamped on the back. The salad servers come with a paper tag that says, "Sustainably harvested tropical hardwood" and "Fair Trade" and "Nicaragua". It also says "Women of the Cloud Forest" on the tag and notes that the organization is a member of the Fair Trade Federation.
These items are NWT. A wonderful fair-trade present.
