🐾🦴NEW RESCUE ALERT!🐾🦴

Just introducing our newest rescue at Sublime Sanctuary, Skygga! She’s a Great Dane who has been through a lot! She came to us with a spay incision that had been ripped open and had to be redone/repaired, full of worms, dull coat and more. But it doesn’t keep her down!! She is an absolute sweetheart. She has been treated for hookworm, which has cleared. She is currently being treated for Heartworms, which can be fatal if left unchecked. She has several rounds of injections (which is arsenic-based to kill the heartworms) and must be on strict kennel rest for 30 days after each treatment round to prevent the dead worms from causing blockages in the lungs as they travel out of the heart. Sounds scary right??? This is our PSA to make sure ALL YOUR DOGS are up to date on heartworm preventatives. Heartworms are transmitted to dogs by mosquitos. There are some states in which heartworm cases aren’t as prevalent, but your veterinarian can provide you with the best information on frequency of cases in your local area. YES the preventatives can be pricey but go ahead and google how much heartworm treatment costs and I promise you’ll be glad you did! Not only the cost, but having to limit your dog’s activity is not fun for the dog or for you! :( Please let me know if you have any questions at all! Welcome Skygga!
