There are several steps in transforming a painting into a figurine. A detailed drawing is made of the painting. A close up view is done of the model, outfit, shoes, accessories and any toy being held. Depending on the figurine, some may have up to a dozen different moulds to include the dolls, dresses, hats, toys that will make up theme of the figurine. Jan Hagara's work reflects back into a time of curls, lace, bonnets and bisque dolls for a moment, then return to today of modern conveniences, the best of two worlds. Each design begins with an idea , possibly a sketch, while a model is located to finish out the idea. A photo session is scheduled during which the child-model is dressed in the costume chosen by Jan from her selection of antique clothing.
