Unopened and being sold as a collectible art piece. This is a limited edition item — purchased in Kyoto, Japan 🇯🇵 — and their candy is typically only available in Japan. Please note it is past its "best by" date.
Wasanbon is a high-end traditional Japanese sugar made in the Shikoku region using a labor-intensive process that dates back over 200 years. The sweets shaped from this sugar (called higashi) are handcrafted by skilled artisans, often in small batches. Baikodo is a well-respected wagashi maker known for intricate detail and traditional molds that reflect Japanese nature, seasons, and aesthetics (like Mt. Fuji).
Many high-end wagashi—including Baikodo’s offerings—are:
• Produced seasonally (some designs only appear in spring or New Year)
• Made in limited quantities, particularly for gift-giving seasons like Oseibo (year-end gifts) or Omiyage (travel souvenirs)
This Mt. Fuji / Chiyo box set is only sold during specific events or in certain regions, and not year-round.
🇯🇵 4. Domestic Focus, Limited Exports
Brands like Baikodo often don’t export widely, and if they do, the special edition gift boxes are rarely sold outside Japan. This makes them harder to find internationally and more prized among collectors of Japanese culture or sweets.
