Very Unique to Find in Velvet & In Very Nice Condition
A True Survivor From the 70's, Lined & Heavier Fabric
Handmade, Ribbon Trim, Likely called a "Hostess Skirt"
"In 1968, the Mountain Artisans co-op was formed in Charleston, West Virginia. The non-profit cooperative would exist (and largely succeed) for the next decade. The collective made and sold quilts, garments, pillows, etc., and though the wares seemed humble, the aim was not: The major driver behind the thing was Sharon Percy Rockefeller, so you could say the project was well funded. The Mountain Artisans made homey, authentic-looking (whatever that means) goods that clicked with the back-to-the-land vibe much of America was into at the time. But it was a high/low mix, since the goods were bound for fancy venues. Rockefeller saw that the Mountain Artisan quilts and floor-length “hostess skirts” were for sale in Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, among other high-end department stores"
