From my store in the 80’s this is a rare and special hand-tied necklace of steel charms and Monopoly tokens, hand painted in pastel colors and tied with sturdy waxed cord.
The story from one of my Chicago reps was that the artist found a large stash of these steel Monopoly and Cracker Jack tokens in a warehouse and acquired the lot. They retailed for $125 in the store in 1986. I sold through 3 orders when the artist's supply ran out. Of course I've kept one for myself out of the first run, each was different and the earliest versions were the best. This is an earlier one. After the metal tokens were gone she had them molded in plastic but they lacked authenticity and were, frankly, cheap.
The tokens themselves are in good shape but the paint chips off if the necklace is allowed to rattle around in a drawer. (I keep mine rolled in tissue.)
The good stuff is always higher maintenance. This is sold “as is.” The colors in the photograph look good!
The necklace measures end to end, 44” with 12” at either end for tying.
This necklace has 29 pieces:
6 candle sticks
3 fireman’s hats
2 shoes
3 storks
2 buses
3 fish
3 scotties
1 airplane
3 Cracker Jack figures
1 rabbit on one tie end and 2 teddy bears on the other tie end.
