A rare piece by master ceramicist Anthony (Tony) Evans (1942-2009) for Foss Pottery. Such a gorgeous blue! And an unusual three-sided geometric form. Reasonable offers always considered.
Though it bears the Foss signature, not Evans’, it’s a classic Evans design: free form, organic in an asymmetrical shape. Evans specialized in Raku pottery, a traditional technique that gives the vase its unusual crackling surface effect and multi-tone luster. (Individual pieces are fired at 2,000 degrees and then submerged in paper or leaves to reduce the surface temperature.) The vase is matte glazed through the body with a glossier finish at the top.
SIZE: Measures about 9” tall by about 7 5/8” at base widest point and 4 1/2” deep.
CONDITION: Excellent, with just one small spot where then glaze did not adhere.
