“Melanie" Southern Belle figurine made by Summit Art Glass from 1980 to 1982. It is made of slag glass, featuring a creamy white and clear mixture, with brown slag variations also available. Summit Art Glass produced the "Melanie" doll as a monthly collectible, each in a different color. The design is believed to be copied from a German Dresden Doll. The mold was destroyed in August 1982, limiting the production run.
A contest winner's initials, "SB" for Shirley Brown, appear next to the Summit logo on the base of some figurines. These figurines can be found in various colors and are considered collectible. Hand-made glass pieces are often more valuable than mass-produced items. Mid-century glass art, including pieces from the 1940s-1970s, is currently popular among collectors.
