Mate the Label alpaca teddy wool cardigan *Disclaimer- this is my first experience with a piece made using alpaca wool and I kind of screwed up washing it. I washed it in a garment bag in cold water with a tiny bit of detergent and unfortunately it felted in places. (Where the wool fibers cling tighter together and thicken). I tried taking pictures of this in a few of the photos but it really doesn’t show it very well. It also has a slight off smell to it-also read it’s pretty normal for alpaca wool to have almost a wet dog smell after being washed but letting it air outside helps. It’s still a pretty piece and cozy in my opinion but I think because I spent a lot of money on it and screwed it up I kind of just want it gone. I think someone else could still really love it but just not me. Any questions please ask :)

remakery Did I shrink? Does it fit weird? I knit with alpaca all the time. It is such a lovely fiber.

kearneygal @remakery I tried it on and to me it didn’t shrink and it doesn’t fit weird. But you can tell the places it felted because the wool is firmer and not as stretchy whereas where it didn’t it’s still very stretchy. Still soft where it felted just not as soft as where it didn’t

catcatcatdog Hey, I might end up buying it but I will say, this has happened to me and I'm also sitting on a sweater I can't bear to part with, but don't know what to do with because it felted. Have you tried any of the methods online? I just googled it and found a page that has a bunch of options to relax a wool sweater like this. I haven't tried any of them but I'd like to now, it sounds like you have to mix a solution and then let it sit for a day.

kearneygal @catcatcatdog Hi! Thank you for the suggestion! I did google after if there was anything that could be done and saw where you can gently soak it and stretch it. Said it won’t ever be back to normal but you can kind of fix it…but I honestly probably won’t try anything more, I don’t want to make it worse if I screw up doing it lol. I actually tried it on the other day and showed my mom while I was home and she told me she wouldn’t have noticed the spots it felted if I hadn’t said anything.

kearneygal @catcatcatdog My mom thought it was still really pretty but also understood why I just want to part with it
