Coil Method - Single Hair Brush Painted
This beautiful piece was hand built and hand painted and etched by Mata Ortiz resident Janet Pedregon. This seed pot has two McCaw - Parrots with plant and is beautifully etched into the surface. In the fall the women would take the seeds for next Spring and place them in beautiful pots and stack them. They would place them in the corner of their home, stacked so the bottom of one pot would seal the top of the other. This storage technique would save space and keep the rodents from ruining next years' seed crop. Janet and her husband live in the village - pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. They have many family members that are also potters. Janet's designs have a distinct style so very easy to spot her work.
