This beautiful piece was hand built and hand painted and etched by Mata Ortiz resident Janet Pedregon. This seed pot has showcases a hummingbird - bee and flower and is beautifully etched into the surface with Paquime detail in both traditional and contemporary colors. In the fall the women would take the seeds for next Spring and place them in beautiful pots and stack them. This storage technique would save space and keep the rodents from ruining next years' seed crop. Janet and her husband live in the village - pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. They have many family members that are also potters. Janet's designs have a distinct style so very easy to spot her work.
