Mata Ortiz Pottery Artist: Oscar Ramirez - Second Generation Hand Made Hand Painted Hand Carved - Etched What an amazing very detailed medium seed pot with fantastic hand painted detail. Gorgeous butterfly design is very detailed and completed in beautiful colors. Oscar is a very talented potter from the village - pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. Angela Corona is his wife, and he learned to make pottery through watching her. Artist Signed On Bottom Of Piece Piece is 3 Inches Tall x 5 Inches In Diameter - The Opening Is 1/4 Inches In Diameter All Mata Ortiz Pottery is hand made using the coil method - hand painted - etched - carved. Some using the sgraffito method for detail then fired most using outside burn method. The hand painted and etched - carved is done by hand they do not use stencils. There are many steps involved in making these gorgeous pieces. They are not just mold made and factory finished - totally hand made. Artist is shown in the photo with one of the other items I purchased from him.
