Mata Ortiz Pottery Artist: Oscar Ramirez - Second Generation Hand Made Hand Painted Hand Carved - Etched What an amazing very detailed large seed pot with fantastic hand painted - etched detail. Amazing butterfly design is very detailed and completed in beautiful colors. Oscar is a very talented potter from the village - pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. Angela Corona is his wife and he learned to make pottery through watching her. They have two very talented daughters who are also making pieces. Artist Signed On Bottom Of Piece Piece is 3 Inches Tall x 7 Inches In Diameter - The Opening Is 1/2 Inches In Diameter All Mata Ortiz Pottery is hand made using the coil method - hand painted - etched - carved. Some using the sgraffito method for detail then fired most using outside burn method. The hand painted and etched - carved is done by hand they do not use stencils. There are many steps involved in making these gorgeous pieces. They are not just mold made and factory finished - totally hand made. I personally hand selected this gorgeous olla from the artist. Artist is shown in the photo with one of the other items I purchased from him. Our goal is to help the wonderful people of Mata Ortiz have a venue that allows the potters to share the fabulous pieces to the world. New - Never Displayed Piece.
