Artist: Lucia Quezada
Hand Made
Carved - Etched Coil Method - Single Hair Brush Painted
This totally handcrafted Mata Ortiz flying saucer seed pot created by Lucia Quezada showcases intricate etched brown clay inspired by ancient Paquimé art. Crafted in the village of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico, it reflects the rich cultural heritage and skilled artistry of the renowned Mata Ortiz pottery tradition.
Lucia lives in the village - pueblo of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. Lucia one of the daughters of Reynaldo Quezada, also makes pottery. The vast majority of her pieces are very similar to her father's: black graphite finish, brown and white clay with tooled surfaces, bowls, jars and flying saucers. The biggest difference is Lucia's pieces are half the size or less. In 2013 she earned a Third-Place ribbon for one of her miniatures at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Women of Mata Ortiz show. She has lots of family members who are also potters in the area.
