Mata Ortiz Pottery Artist: Juana Ledezma Hand Made Hand Painted Etched Coil Method - Single Hair Brush Painted Juana is the daughter of Arturo Ledezma and the sister of the famous Ledezma boys - Efren, Rafael, Santos, and Gerardo. Juana is a master potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in Northern Mexico. Juana has the family's distinctive style with bright colors and with intricate geometric designs painted on the entire piece. her designs are very symmetrical, and her pieces are very well balanced. All pieces are hand formed with the coil and pinch method, then hand smoothed prior to being hand painted with fabulous perfection. Artist Signed On Bottom Of Piece Piece is 3.5 Inches Tall x 6.5 Inches In Diameter - The Opening Is 2.5 Inches In Diameter All Mata Ortiz Pottery is hand made using the coil method - hand painted - etched - carved. Some using the sgraffito method for detail then fired most using outside burn method. The hand painted and etched - carved is done by hand they do not use stencils. There are many steps involved in making these gorgeous pieces. They are not just mold made and factory finished totally hand made. Pieces are purchased directly from the potters.
