Wouldn’t a mascara or lipstick just fall out of the opening in the top? Is the right side magnetized like the left?

The right side is not magnetized but it hold the item nicely an once again the lipstick will not fall out. There is a slight overlap on the lid that holds it. I hope this answers your questions and that you are still interested.
