Beautiful Metropolitan Museum of Art cloisonne enamel pin in the shape of a maple leaf! The pin is about 1-3/4" tall x 1-1/2" wide. It is metal that is - to the best of my knowledge - gold plated. The rich red cloisonne style enamel is a gorgeous color - like the color of a maple leaf in fall. The back is signed: "(c) MMA 1985" Lovely! A design for an engraved niello ornament by Jean Toutin, who was active in France, from 1618 to 1640, provided the source for this decorative leaf pin. Niello work reached its height, artistically and technically, during the early Renaissance in Italy, especially in Florence. The Museum's reproduction is hard enamel on copper with 24kt. gold electroplate. Proceeds from the sale of all publica- tions and reproductions are used to support the Museum.
