New the top side spots are deep enough for mascara, pencils, lipstick makeup brushes etc. the top middle spots are not as deep. they are better for paper clips, erasers, eyeshadow, cotton balls etc. the middle drawer pulls out and can fit post it notes, cotton balls or circles, makeup sponges, q-tips, foundation or powders or really anything else you may find useful. new, never used.
