3498-2024) Makah Neah Bay Olympic Peninsula Washington State Northwest Coast Hand Carved Totem Pole made of NWC Red Cedar that was painted red, white, blue, black, and green by the artist likely mid 20th century circa 1930s to 1960s. Measures at 24.5” tall by 15.5” wide and 2 /7/8” thick as illustrated in listing photos. This totem was already old and showing decades of curation when we acquired it from an antique dealer located in New Westminster British Columbia Canada during the mid-1990s. We have owned this totem ever sense and used it for years in a company logo for a small business called Northwest Art and Collectibles where the totem was used in a website banner as well as custom created coffee mugs. The carver signed his name as Rick however we are unclear what this man’s surname or non-Anglo name may be. This being said Rick completely hand carved this totem with Clan figures from top to bottom. The wings of the eagle are made of one piece of cedar and are removable via a pair of metal screws that we used to replace the original brass nail and screw that were not properly holding together due to desiccation or drying / curing of the wood. The wood is in decent condition and the totem was made a bit raw with most edges showing scalloping patterns from being hand carved with a knife or specialized tools.
