MODISH 1930s' BLACK TILT HAT - VELVET BRIM + PAINTED FEATHERS & BOW

This is a stunning tilt hat from the 1930's. The flat crown is indented around the top. edge, and is surrounded by a velvet covered brim. There is a band made of twisted narrow felt strips around the brown, which ends in a bow and "streamers" at one side. Stunning painted feathers in off-white and black rise above the hat from the side where the bow is located. These feathers are very delicate, and are in expected vintage condition. There are 2 grosgrain bands attached to the inside of the hat, held together by a small elastic "O" ring. This band helps keep the hat in a tilted position. Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills. There is no designer label, indicating it was a custom-made creation. This is an authentic piece of fashion history and not new! This hat is in wonderful vintage condition for its age & has been lovingly preserved among over 1300 vintage hats we have collected for 40+ years.
