MERRY 1940s' BLACK FELT TILT HAT WITH SEQUIN FLOWER APPLIQUE, JEWELS, FULL VEIL

This is an outstanding tilt hat from the fabulous 40s' made of black felt. The tall, tubular crown is flat at the top, and is surrounded by a medium width brim. There is a full spider veil, which can be tucked in around the brim. The brilliant sequin flower plus the jewels on the brim make this design unique. There is an elastic band attached to the inside of the hat to hold the hat in a tilted position. This hat is a collector's dream! Tilt hats were popular in the 1930s and 1940s. They were worn at an angle and held to the back of the head by a strap, rigid ring, elastic band beneath the hair, an extended cap, or a combination of these. 30s Fashion certainly seemed fussier than the 1920s with its relentless ornaments of bows, trims and frills.
