MCM 50's ORIGINAL. VINTAGE SITTING CAT FIGURINE CMIELOW BOGUCICE Mid Century

An irresistible black and white cat figurine A vintage original surviving in perfect condition since the early 1950s when Zdana Kosicka created this design Made in the Bogucice porcelain works and hand decorated, apart from the cute little B/W face and white paws and tail, the cat has sgraffito style markings to it's left leg and back. Fabulous modernist lines and full of feline character, the cat is fully marked on the underside with the location B and model 5022/59. Made in Poland. Bogucice was one of several Polish factories that produced designs from the acclaimed Institute of Industrial Design in the 1950s and 1960s where Zdana Kosicka worked. Other factories produced similar pieces from these designers: Cmielow, Chodziez, Wawel, and others. Cmielow does produce contemporary versions of some of these designs having inherited the molds in the 1964 but this is a rare and early original example The cat measures 9cm (3.5") tall
