BASHIRI MRUTA AWAZI (signed as M. Awazi) is one of the old masters of Tingatinga painting. Born in 1943 in what is now the Republic of Tanzania, Awazi was one of the painters who learned the painting techniques of Edwardo S. Tingatinga from his students who survived him. He helped develop this technique became the first art genre to originate in Tanzania after the country's founding in 1964. His art has been published in Japan and sold around the world.
