I may get some shade over this, but it needs to be said-
There are many GORGEOUS Jewelry pieces (most often from Mexico) which have the Mark "ALPACA". These pieces are loved, and highly collectable. This post has not been created to "tarnish" Alpaca in any way, or negatively sway your love for Alpaca jewelry- It's beautiful, and incredible quality! BUT ..
I have seen many times, people confuse this mark as either a location in Mexico ('Taxco' for example) or an Artist signature signed 'Alpaca'
These listings then almost always state the piece of jewelry is "Sterling Silver" 925
Recently, I came across a bracelet marked Mexico with a slightly cut-off 'Alpaca' mark (I immediately recognized it)... What sparked me to create this post was that the seller put in the bottom of their description "Tests positive for silver". This really bothered me, because by stating that- it meant this wasn't just an uneducated mistake. It was a willful lie. One that could potentially hurt their buyer, as well as negatively impact other sellers reputations who do, and learn everything they can out of respect for integrity.
Alpaca is NOT Sterling Silver, and factually contains *No Silver at all*
If you are a new collector please be aware of this. It is important! 2 main reasons-
Alpaca- aka 'Nickle Silver', 'White Metal' contains high levels of Nickel (the most common allergenic trigger for those with sensitivities)
**Sterling is a Precious metal**
Alpaca (NOT a Precious metal)

I also hate when it's stamped "925" and it's actually not sterling! But, yeah, when sellers do stuff like that it pisses me off, too, after all the work we put in to test every piece!

@valleyofthesun_ Yes this is a problem too! Not often with Vintage, but it does still happen occasionally. It's a HUGE problem with stuff coming from cheap apps (which I don't need to name). A lot of it has a 925 stamp but is nothing more than Nickle plated Copper or Silver tone alloy.
