Jack Schmitt is famous for his paintings of classic cars and gas stations. He grew up around Chicago and graduated from college with a degree in Industrial Design. He was first hired by Ford Motor Company as a car designer then became a freelance designer using his watercolor paintings to get across his ideas. As Schmitt’s paintings grew in popularity, he became a full time watercolor artist and moved to California in 1975.
This charming winter scene shows the artist is just as adept at portraying old-fashioned landscapes as he is at painting vintage cars and gas stations. On a crisp, winter day a horse and buggy has just passed through a snow-covered wooden bridge nestled among a grove of black, barren trees. You can practically feel the crisp air and hear the echo of the clippety-clops the horses hooves made when passing through lovingly-crafted structure.
The visual measurement of the watercolor is approximately 8 x 12 inches and it has been triple matted and placed in a solid wood frame measuring approximately 13 x 17.5 inches. Everything is in excellent condition and the painting has been signed in the bottom left corner ‘Jack Schmitt NWS’ (National Watercolor Society).
