For your consideration is an exceptionally rare and important vintage Lee & Mary Weebothee Zuni 14-karat solid gold ring set with approximately 20 carats of genuine, pre-ban Mediterranean coral (Corallium rubrum) in their iconic domed "pumpkin" cluster design.
This is the exact pattern that helped Lee & Mary win more Grand Prizes in the 1970s than any other Zuni artists — a design that was photographed and published in multiple period magazines and books on Native American jewelry.
• Hallmark: Clearly stamped inside the shank "ZUNI ♥ LEE/MARY 14K" (see photo)
• Metal: Tested and guaranteed 14kt solid yellow gold – total weight 6.70 grams
• Coral: Deep oxblood-red, genuine Mediterranean coral (pre-CITES, pre-1990s ban) – no dye, no bamboo, no spiny oyster substitute
• Coral weight: Approx. 20 carats total (one large high-dome segmented cabochon plus 7–8 hand-cut round cabochons, each prong-set with hand-applied gold beads)
• Ring size: US 5.75 (can be sized by your jeweler if needed)
• Condition: Excellent vintage condition – bright original high polish on the coral, no chips or cracks, only light honest wear to the gold commensurate with gentle estate use.
Lee & Mary Weebothee pieces in 14k gold almost never appear on the market, and examples with documented pre-ban Mediterranean coral are virtually unobtainable today. This ring came from a private Santa Fe collection that has been off the market for over 30 years.
Thank you for looking, and good luck!
