Large Rhodochrosite Drilled gemstone * 47.62 x 31.02 x 6.17mm * RDC2D3

This is a beautiful specimen of Rhodochrosite with its great gemmy areas and wonderful patterns. It varies from opaque to translucent and from soft, pale pink to a rich, deep pink. It is drilled, front to back near the top. The front has a domed face that gently rolls over to the straight sides. The back is flat. All surfaces are polished. I love how the patterns resemble a flower in the lower right corner. It measures 47.62 x 31.02 x 6.17mm. Today, the biggest supply of Rhodochrosite comes from Argentina where it is their "national gemstone". It is also found in Colorado, where they officially declared it to be their state mineral in 2002. It has also been found in South Africa, Peru, Montana, Russia, Romania, Spain, China, Gabon, Mexico, and Japan. Rhodochrosite, not to be confused with Rhodonite, is known as the Stone of the Compassionate Heart, symbolizing selfless love. Kind of fitting for a pink stone.
