This is a lovely vintage Zulu knobkerrie, dating to approximately the 1970s. This small ceremonial knobkerrie was most likely made as a tourist piece in South Africa by Zulu women. The shaft and head are made of wood. The shaft has been covered with decorative beadwork typical of the Zulu people. It is made of coloured beads with a pattern of bands and zig-zags made out of the different colored beads. At the end of the shaft is a hole with a loop threaded through so it can be hung up. The knobkerrie measures 10.75" long, by 1.75" across the head. It bears no maker's marks. It is in good condition with just the slightest of wear. Photos accurately show the condition of this vintage piece. A lovely decorative vintage piece and a fine addition to your folk art collection.
