Kutani Sleeping Cat Rare Japanese Antique Nemuri Neko Hand Painted 9.5”
This mid century Japanese porcelain figurine measures 9.5 inches long by 3.75 inches high by 4.75" wide. Made by a Japanese artisan, it depicts a peaceful sleeping cat in an elegant white porcelain with splashes of gold.
The sleeping cat was once made famous in Japan by a transom carved by the artist Hidari Jingoro (left handed Jingoro) depicting a sleeping cat laying next to a Peony (Japanese Botan) flower blossom. It hangs in the east corridor at the Nikko Toshogu Shrine in Japan.
The condition is very good with no chips or cracks and its age is from the 1960's.
