Miyako Hotel "Karate Punch" Vintage Souvenir Cocktail Bucket Mug
This mug, dating from the 1960s, is made of ceramic with a bark-like texture and a glazed interior. It depicts two figures engaged in karate moves, with the words "KARATE PUNCH" inscribed on the front.
The Miyako Hotel, originally constructed by the Kinki Nippon Railway and operated by Western Hotels Company, was a significant part of San Francisco's Japantown. It opened in 1968 alongside the Kintetsu Shopping Center, contributing to the creation of the "Japan Center". The hotel, now known as Hotel Kabuki, part of JdV by Hyatt, is located in Japantown, near the Fillmore District.
These mugs were popular souvenirs, reflecting the tiki culture trend of the mid-20th century and the hotel's Japanese theme.
