Vintage and not easily found flame enameled large cast iron oval AU GRATIN BAKING DISH (or Casserole) with a raised bottom heat/smoke ring by DESCOWARE of Belgium. It measures approx. 13" long (add 1" for each side handle grip) x 9-1/2" wide x 2" side high (deep), can hold up to 2-1/2 quarts (80 oz.) The flame colored exterior (or an orange color blending into a red-orange color). This enameled cast iron oval Baking Dish heats evenly, retains the heat, and with consistent care it will last a lifetime. The exact age is unknown...circa 1960's. Descoware was a company that made enamelled cast iron pots and pans in Belgium. The company started manufacturing in the 1930s Eventually, descoware was bought out by Le Creuset. Descoware was the signature cookware of Julia Child and was featured regularly on her cooking show during the 1960's. She praised it highly for its quality and durability. Descoware originally was known as Bruxelles Ware at its inception. This item weighs approx. 5-1/2 lbs.
