Jo Mora (1876–1947) was a Uruguayan-born artist known as the "Renaissance Man of the West," who spent his adult life in the American West, primarily California and Arizona, working in diverse mediums like painting, sculpture, photography, and cartography. He is particularly renowned for his unique pictorial maps, which combined detailed illustrations of regional life, history, and folklore with cartography. Mora also documented and learned about Native American cultures, especially the Hopi and Navajo, in Arizona, and created literary works and sculptures celebrating the culture and history of the American West.
