Stoneware Ikebana Pillow Planter with Asian inspired decoration This beautiful matte glazed piece has the makers mark "RS" on it's bottom - perhaps this is an early example of RUPERT SPIRA's work. I can not verify this, but he has a few different versions of his RS mark over his forty plus years a potter, this could be one of them. This does not match his current aesthetic, but I've seen examples of his less refined earlier work that was done in thicker stoneware. I have seen another one, nearly identical to this and also an abstract vase with the identical mark. This is slab construction with an imprinted pattern. Base also has a pattern imprinted on the coil. It does sit flat and holds water.
