Japanese Hand Painted Okinawa Tsuboya-yaki Pottery Stoneware Tea Cups Set of Four w Birds Reds Blues Golds Vintage
This set was quite the score for me at a local California shop. I wish I knew their history. They don't appear to have much use. A great set for someone who knows about Japanese pottery or simply appreciates their beauty.
Measurements:
3 1/8" Diam x 2 5/8" H, ~4.5 oz ea
Condition:
Excellent vintage condition with no noticed chips or cracks. The glazing is shiny and vibrant, with no signs of color loss to the hand-painted features. The bottoms of the cups are fairly free from wear. Normal wear for age and use. Please see all photos.
About Tsuboya-Yaki:
Tsuboya-Yaki (Okinawa) is Traditional Craft Products designated by the Japanese Government. Established in the 17th century. There are two distincive stpes, "Arayachi" (or unglazed ware) and "jyoyachi" (or glazed ware) . "Arayachi" is getting outdated now. The ware is characterized by carving decoration of abstract birds and fish and unique coloring. Approx. 25 potteries engage in pottery production.
