JONES NY PETITE LADIES BLACK DOUBLE-BREASTED FORMAL TUXEDO BLAZER
Jones New York got its start as a division of John Meyer of Norwich. In 1969, John Meyer merged with the W.R. Grace company. The Jones New York label was started in 1970 as a line of contemporary women’s separates. Sidney Kimmel managed it with Rena Rowan as head designer. In 1975, Kimmel bought the label from Grace and established the Jones Apparel Group. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Jones New York evolved into a major producer of women’s wear, specializing in separates and career clothing.
Rena Rowan designed for Jones New York and was a vice president in the company until her retirement in 2000. Today, the Jones Apparel Group also owns many major American labels, including Kasper, Anne Klein, Nine West shoes, and Rachael Roy.
Target audience: The brand specializes in contemporary separates and career clothing for working women.
Establishment of parent company: In 1975, Kimmel and Grace accountant Gerard Rubin purchased the label from W.R. Grace & Co., incorporating it as Jones Apparel Group.
Rapid growth: Jones Apparel Group quickly became one of the fastest-growing apparel companies in the United States, reaching $250 million in sales by the mid-1980s.
Current availability:
Today, Jones New York operates as a global lifestyle brand. Products can be found in various department stores such as Dillard's, Hudson Bay, and Macy's, and online at its website
