First Press (U.S.) Released Nov 17, 1980 • CLEANED & PLAY-GRADED 👍 VG+/VG+ 'Double Fantasy' is the fifth collaborative studio album by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, released by Geffen Records on November 17, 1980 (just three weeks prior to Lennon's assassination). The album had marked a return to recording music full-time for Lennon, following a five-year hiatus to raise his son Sean. Recording sessions took place at the "Hit Factory" in New York City between August and October of 1980. The final album features songs from both Lennon and Ono, largely alternating between the two in its track listing. Initially, in the US 'Double Fantasy' had risen to #11. Upon Lennon's death, the album jumped to #1 on the "Billboard 200" chart, where it stayed for eight weeks. The album has since been certified 3× Platinum and Lennon & Ono won "Album of the Year" at the 24th Annual Grammy Awards. In 1989, 'Double Fantasy' was ranked #29 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest albums of the 1980s.
