This spooner, or spoon vase, was produced by the Indiana Tumbler & Goblet Company of Greentown, Indiana, in the 1890s. It measures 4 1/4 inches tall and 3 1/2 inches wide at the mouth and is from their No. 137 pattern, also known as Pleat Band, which they made from 1894 to 1899. Condition: Excellent antique condition, with no chips or cracks. Some light scratching. Air bubble at the rim. A spooner was originally part of a Victorian-era table setting, designed to hold spoons for easy access during meals. Instead of placing individual spoons at each setting, households would keep them in a spooner at the center of the table, allowing guests to take one as needed. Founded in 1894 in Greentown, Indiana, the Indiana Tumbler & Goblet Company thrived during the natural gas boom, which fueled glass production in the region. Known for its pressed crystal and colored glass, the company introduced iconic hues like canary, emerald green, and chocolate glass before merging into National Glass Company in 1899. Tragically, a fire in 1903 destroyed its factory and glass molds, marking the end of production. Today, Greentown glassware, including patterns like Pleat Band, remains highly collectible for its craftsmanship and historical significance.
