I’m sharing this with you in very loving memory of my beautiful mama who passed away from lung cancer three years ago today. I’m sharing it because you may be battling cancer or know someone who is. Maybe you need to hear this. Like many “hip” women of my mama’s generation, she started smoking after she got married. It’s just what they did. Mama had been a non-smoker for about the last 40 years of her life, so when they found the tiniest little dot of cancer in her lung during a random check-up, no-one could have been more surprised than she. Lucky for us, she loved life, her family & friends, so she vowed she would beat the 4 month death sentence she was handed & she would continue toward her ever-faithful goal of living to 103. She was still determined to slide into home base wearing her “fancies”! Her doc tried to convince her that she would only see 4 mo’s IF she agreed to chemo. Mama would have none of that. She told him if all he could offer with chemo is 4 mo’s, that wasn’t going to work for her! She was in this game of life to win it. At 81 she went vegan & gave up meat, dairy, sugar & wine. She breathed happiness, faith & determination through every pore of her body. She was a WARRIOR! She did what her doc said was impossible, she lived for 18 months with lung cancer! My sis & I lived with her for the last 3 months of her life & it was the greatest blessing of our adult lives! Then we cried! GONE TOO SOON! MISSED SO MUCH! 💕PLEASE SHARE, IT MIGHT MATTER

ceeceebythesea Lost my Mom in March to cancer. She was a beautiful person. I had the honor & privilege of holding her hand on that last day, telling her how much I appreciate all she did for us & how very much she was loved. She made the holidays pure magic. When I visit my Dad now there is still some part of me, my eyes or my brain or my heart or my soul, that is still looking for her. She was always there! Why isn't she there now?! Rest in peace, sweet Mom. 💙

kindluxuries @ceeceebythesea Hi Love, somehow I missed your comment. My apologies and sincere condolences for your major loss. Of all the people in our lives, I don’t think anyone can take the place of our mama’s. I felt exactly like you, expecting my mama to walk through the door any minute any time I visited my dad. Unfortunately, he sold their River home and moved to California be near my older sister.. He also passed away within 6 months from Covid. Tremendous losses and my heart goes out to you!

kindluxuries @josephboy Hello My Love, I can feel your heartbreak and love from her! Common experiences always make people feel closer and I feel the connection with you! It sucks to lose anyone we truly love, and I’m grateful to have no lost any siblings or friends, but parents to me are on a whole other level. If you’ve been blessed like I have, parents are

kindluxuries @josephboy Oops, I hit > before I finished my sentence & didn’t get to proofread it, lol. Anyway, I was saying my parents were on another level of love, forgiveness, grace, thoughtfulness, godliness, fun, joyful experience-givers, etc & their loss is a ❤️ache that may never heal completely until we’re in their presence again. But we can live our best & happiest life because that’s what they’d want for us & we can embrace the love & pain our friends go thru cuz we get it. I FEEL you my friend! 💕

gracelovestyle This touched my heart. Thank you for sharing and also...sending the biggest hugs to you. Your mother sounded like an amazing woman, and you are right...sooo many ppl are fighting battles unseen and often, alone. At the very least, extending kindness to one another should be easy. Again, thank you for sharing.

gastrogirl1 I was so touched by this post. On October 27, I celebrated 7 years being cancer free. I was a non smoker and diagnosed with NSCLC which was incidentally found. God has richly blessed my life and this year I have began to sleek at lung cancer events to survivors, families and physicians. Your mom sounds like a great woman who inspired those around her. I pray that I can do the same many blessings

xmejohns Thank you for sharing your beautiful yet sad story. Five years ago, at the age of 57 I had surgical biopsies of my lungs, diagnosing terminal interstitial lung disease! Six months ago my baby sister was diagnosed with stage IV double lung cancer, with no promising prognosis. She is now 52. Something told me to look for “Just breathe,” and I found this beautiful memorial! May you be blessed with Peace!
