TURKMEN ANTIQUE TRIBAL ASYK SILVER PENDANT Approx 3.5”Hx2″W Silver decorated w/a flat/smooth cut stone, possibly carnelian? Stone has a small shallow chip; imagine could be polished down if desired. Flower rosettes decorate the surface Based on what we were told & w/a little research, is highly likely a Turkmen tribal piece from Turkmenistan. Handcrafted & antique; maybe c1900 & an Asyk pendant “Asyk (asik) pendants are distinctively Turkmen, given to women as engagement/wedding gifts by well wishers, adding to a brides personal wealth. Treasured amulets, since the more asyks a bride received, the more good fortune would come to her/her new family An asyk is a sturdy silver pendant; a traditional wedding gift for Turkmen brides Historically: These were Generally handmade w/90% silver & occasionally a decorative gold gild. Ornate designs of triangles and/or hearts. Generally made of “high karat silver & features large carnelian stones.” As is/as found. Unsure of history or what silver material is, 800/sterling/coin/mixed? Magnet seems only to stick the areas where the chain goes thru, the center spine section & “collar“ that wraps around the stone Chain itself: unknown metal You’ll always find imperfections & wear w/any of our vintage pieces.
