These vintage Coach brief bags get confused quite often, but there are differences in the colors released, number of pockets, straps (if any), and even small differences in the sizes.
First up is the Brief Bag style no 5080
Gussetted pockets on the outside, zippered compartment inside
The 6 colors released were Mocha, British Tan, Black, Red, Burgundy, and Tabac
Dimensions - 16"W x 11"H x 2"
Next up is the Diplomat Briefcase style no 5170
Gussetted for extra large carrying capacity
Interior divided into two sections
Leather-lined flap with two flat pockets underneath to hold colds, arline tickets, travel documents, calculators and pens More pockets inside
The 5 colors released were Black, British Tan, Burgundy, Mocha, and Tabac
Dimensions - 16 1/2"W x 11"H x 2 3/4"D
Finally we get to the Prescott Brief style no 5275
The immediate noticable difference with this bag is the shoulder strap
Full outside back pocket, two front gussetted pockets with business card pocket and two pen holders under the leather-lined flap
Inside zipper pocket
46" Adjustable strap that detaches, with a shoulder pad that detaches
The 3 colors released were Mahogany, Black, and British tan
Dimensions - 16"W x 10 1/2"H x 3 1/2"D
I will be listing a Prescott Brief soon, and since a list of listers think that any Coach brief is the Diplomat version, I wanted to share these catalogue scans so the differences could be known.
