I'm just posting this to help. I was scammed on EBay and purchased quite a few Laura Mercier Translucent powders bc they are my favorite. After figuring this out I went and bought one from Sephora, so I had both on hand to compare and take photos of. I noticed there are quite a few people selling these on Poshmark and I'd hate for people to get duped like I did. 😊👍🏻

laf336 Hi, thanks for this. I've never tried the LM setting powder and don't want to get ripped off by shady scammers. It looks like maybe the lid is quite a bit taller on the real one too or is that just a camera angle thing? I think I should buy from sephora my first time around to be safe.

cmedina0182 @laf336 you’re welcome... 😊 and you’re right the lid was a little bit taller on the real one. I just bought one off Posh bc they’re my favorite too, you just have to look for listings with a good amount of photos so that you can inspect. I didn’t wanna spend the 38$ either. Lol I think the biggest “tell” are the little notches in the lid? I have yet to see a fake with the evenly spaced notches. 😉

katielewie I have two of these, one I’ve used for a year and one I just bought off posh this week. After reviewing this, it turns out my old one is fake. However, I’ve read other comparisons that make it look like my new one is fake too. Please help?

cmedina0182 @katielewie 😂same! I was totally telling myself it was amazing...then I got the real one and realized it wasn’t. The real stuff is silky, no white cast, and absorbs oil with no problem. Plus I feel like it doesn’t cake?

lingram9 @katielewie that’s what I did according to the photos here mine is real my concern is my new one from eBay on the bottom label on the container has a different address from where it was distributed from. Mine says LAURA MERCIER COSMETICS, New York, NY 10150 DIST. and the real one I purchased from Sephora last year says DIST. GURWITCH PRODUCTS, L.L.C. P.O. BOX 7568, NEW TOK, NY 10150. I was thinking maybe the new real ones would have this new address but the ones I saw don’t

lauren8165 This just happened to me. Got from a poshmark seller. Unfortunately it took me 4 days to be like "this really doesn't feel like Laura Mercier* and started investigating. By that time, my 72 hour window after accepting the item was over and I couldn't get a refund. I did email poshmark though and let them know, hoping a could prevent someone else from buying.

I bought a ton of fake Anastasia Beverly Hills stuff once. 😩 Honestly I’ve never known Laura Mercier to have different packaging variations unless it’s the smaller travel size maybe. The LM dupes are soooo close too which made me second guess a lot, but I’m thinking your gut is prob right. 🤦🏻‍♀️

lauren8165 @cmedina0182 oh god, I'd be sooo upset. Luckily I'm only out $20. I should have known the price was too good to be true though. But she has sold thousands of items and had a ton of positive love notes, so I went through with it. She also listed it was authentic and I asked again before buying and she said it was. 😞 Thank you for posting this though. It was the easiest one to follow out of the others I looked at. ☺️ Guess that's the risk you take buying 2nd hand.

I just had to make the post bc when I went to repurchase an authentic one, I honestly couldn’t find a real one on Posh or other sites and that’s saying a lot bc there’s literally hundreds of listings. I just went to check the one I got from Macy’s a few years ago (still perfect btw) and looks exactly the same as yours from Sephora😉 Some sellers claim the jar is different because of newer/older batch but it’s a big fat lie.
