Own a piece of history with this two-piece collectible coin set presented by the Morgan Mint. This set of two historic U.S. coins includes a Jefferson Silver Nickel (1942-1945) and a Barber Silver Quarter (1892-1916). In 1892, the U.S. Mint introduced a new series of Silver coins from the Dime to the Half Dollar. The coins were intended to bring uniformity to America's coinage by featuring similar designs. The Barber Silver Quarter was designed by Charles E. Barber, the Chief Engraver at the U.S. Mint. This collectible Quarter, also known as the Liberty Head Quarter, features a portrait of Liberty on the obverse. The 13 starts surrounding Liberty represent the 13 original states. The Barber Quarter was struck in .900 Fine Silver from 1892 until 1916, when it was replaced by the Standing Liberty Quarter. The second collectible coin included is the Jefferson Silver Nickel. It was first minted in 1938 to honor Thomas Jefferson, one of America's "Founding Fathers." The obverse depicts a portrait of Jefferson based on a bust made in 1789. The reverse shows Jefferson's famous house at Monticello in Virginia. Late in 1942, the alloy of the Jefferson Nickel changed to .350 Fine Silver to help save nickel for the war effort. The Jefferson Silver Nickels have a large mint mark that was added above Monticello on the reverse. Production of the regular Nickel coins resumed in 1946. Both coins in this set come with an informational mount, vinyl sleeve and certificate of authenticity.
