Hildegard von Bingen: O Jerusalem 1997 Sequentia CD

This recording, diligently and expertly performed by Sequentia, is one of my favorites in a rather sizeable collection of Hildegard von Bingen’s work. The opening track, after which the album is titled, is a musical tour de force. This is the most triumphant rendition of “O Jerusalem” I have ever heard. The mammoth bells pealing in the background stir the soul. But there is also much of the lyrical, airy plainchant here that is such a hallmark of Hildegard’s prodigious musical output. I highly recommend this reissued version of the original album.
