This is an authentic Hermès silk twill carré titled Art des Steppes, designed by the renowned artist Annie Faivre and first issued in 1991. This particular scarf was purchased in 1991 and has been never worn — it has lived in its box in my closet for years. It remains in excellent condition with crisp silk, vibrant colors, and plump hand-rolled hems.
The design celebrates the rich equestrian and textile traditions of the Eurasian steppes. Faivre’s artistry shines in the finely detailed saddlecloths, ornate harnesses, and striking horses, creating one of Hermès’ most collectible and visually dynamic designs.
Collectors especially prize Annie Faivre’s works. She is a legendary Hermès designer, active since the 1980s, known for her intricate detailing signature “hidden monkey” motif that appears in many of her scarves. Her pieces, particularly first-issue carrés like this one, are highly sought after in the vintage Hermès market.
• Year of design/purchase: 1991 (first issue)
• Condition: Excellent / Never Worn – no pulls, stains, or damage; edges plump and intact
• Care tag: Not present (typical for early 1990s scarves; confirms vintage authenticity)
• Includes: Original Hermès box (shows some marks)
This is the original full design version, not the later “Détail” reissue. Early Faivre scarves without care tags are increasingly rare, and a never-worn example makes this piece especially desirable for serious Hermès collectors.
